Ritachhanda is an experimental journey in the field of music and performing arts to transmit the cultural and spiritual heritage of India in modern forms to the present day aspirants. This is not just a music school but a voyage to explore the depth and richness of Indian music through sessions of learning and workshops by eminent artists and great masters to bring alive the past in the present for an enlightening future odyssey. The inspiration of this venture is the bigger umbrella of the SNB Foundation. The space is located in the heart of South Calcutta just opposite Lake Mall in Lake Market.
Those who can look the deepest into the past can also see the farthest into the future – so goes an old saying. Let us take the deepest look in the ancient Indian wisdom literature. We reach the realm of the Rig Veda. In the tenth mandala of this ancient text we find the concept of 'Rita' – the cosmic rhythm that holds everything in order. It covers the movement of planets, the cycle of seasons, the flow of the ebb and the tide in the ocean, the advent of the day and the night and also at a micro level the rhythm of our breath. The sages of the Vedic times advised us to search for this rhythm in our day to day life – 'Satyam cha Ritam cha' – the truth lies in the rhythm of life. Shrimat Saumyendra Nath Brahmachary, the former Acharya of Dev Sangha, and the spiritual successor of Shrimat Narendra Nath Brahmachary and Brahmarshi Satyadev, gave us the inspiration to explore this truth in every walk and movement of life. 'Ritachhanda' is our humble effort to find this truth as a rhythm of music and dance and enjoy it as the breath of our life. Eminent musicians and great masters will help us in this journey to discover this 'chhanda' or rhythm and make our life more meaningful.
